Do Ferrets Get Along with Cats?

Do Ferrets Get Along with Cats?

Ferrets and cats, just like other animals (and people) have different personalities. One cat might be best buddies with one cat and hiss and fight with another.Do Ferrets Get Along with Cats?

A Ferret’s Point of View

Ferrets view people, other ferrets, and other animals in a variety of ways. But primarily as a playmate. As a carefree and fearless pet, ferrets above all love to play. Ferrets can play very hard, and without  meaning to, could harm another pet.

Another way ferrets may see another pet, such as a cat, is as an enemy. A fearful ferret will defend himself if he feels cornered. A jealous ferret might act aggressively toward a cat if you aren’t paying enough attention to him.

A Cat’s Point of View

Cats view people as their servants and other pets as either toys, prey, predators or rivals. Cats may see small ferret kits as a new toy to play with or as a tasty snack! Cats are also territorial and may see a ferret as an intruder to his territory, which he must defend. Some cats will also become jealous if they are not getting the attention they demand. Any one of these characteristics may cause a cat to potentially hurt a ferret.

Trusted Pet Sitters–Trusted Housesitters Review

Trusted Pet Sitters–Trusted Housesitters Review

You want to take a vacation. But what about your pet?Trusted Pet Sitters--Trusted Housesitters Review

Some pets you may be able to take with you. But do you want to?

Some pets just are not suited for travel. Some pets you can’t easily put in a kennel.

And what if you have multiple pets? Boarding  2 dogs is doable, but the cost can really add up–you may pay more to board them each night than you are paying for your own hotel room! What if you have a dog, a cat and a bird? or a chicken and a goat? What if you have 3 ferrets? It can get a bit complicated and expensive.

I have discovered a unique pet sitting/house sitting service called Trusted Housesitters. It really should be Trusted Pet Sitters because in my opinion pets come first. If I am looking for a pet sitter to stay in my home, I will be looking for a pet sitter, not a house sitter, but that’s just me. I have done some research on Trusted Housesitters and I’d like to share it with you. Continue reading Trusted Pet Sitters–Trusted Housesitters Review

U.S. Senator Criticizes Efforts to Save Black Footed Ferret

News from Rapid City, South Dakota

As with the domestic ferret, Black- Footed Ferrets face opposition from some government officials.

Efforts to save the Black-Footed Ferret are the subject of criticism according to an article in the Rapid City Journal on August 31, 2016

When speaking about the Endangered Species Act,  U.S. Senator, Mike Rounds, stated that the high protection of the black-footed ferret is an example of a costly project with little return.

He said of the efforts to save the black- footed Ferret: “Millions of dollars have been spent for a species with little incline in population.”

Noreen Walsh, Regional Director for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was questioned in regard to the efforts to save the black-footed ferret and she defended the protective listing of black-footed ferrets.  She said this endangered animal is “on the road to recovery but not there yet.”

Holiday with Pet Ferret

Should He Stay or Should He Go?

It’s time to plan a vacation/ holiday!

Does your vacation include your ferret? Some people wouldn’t dream of leaving their little furry kids at home, while others want the freedom to do whatever they choose without worrying about their pets.
